This informal meeting will bring together the influenza research community from across the UK and Ireland, to present and discuss ongoing work.

To make the event as accessible as possible, costs will be limited to the minimum needed to cover catering. The timing is intended to allow new students to attend.

Sessions will be organised to cover a wide range of influenza research. In response to several requests, a focussed session will be organised at the end of the meeting on filamentous influenza virions.

In response to several requests, the main meeting will be followed by an optional discussion of future directions in influenza filament research, chaired by Dr Jeremy Rossman (University of Kent).

Registration (by 3 November):

£60pp, including lunches and coffee breaks on both days, a drinks reception and breakfast. Accommodation is not included.

Subject to demand, an evening meal and reception will also be organised to allow conversations to continue through the evening. This will cost an additional £50 (£110 total cost) and would be held at the University of Edinburgh's South Hall Complex, located at Pollock Halls Campus and overlooking Arthur's Seat. If you are interested in the dinner option, please let us know ASAP.

Bus transport back into the city will be laid on after the drinks reception on the evening of the 21 Novemmber but spaces are likely to be limited and given on a first-come first-served basis.

The final deadline for registration is the 3 November. Please e-mail Ed Hutchinson ( to register, stating:

  • any dietary preferences
  • whether you would like to attend the evening event
  • whether you would like bus transport back to the city on the 21 November

Abstract Submission (by 20 October):

We encourage all participants to present work, with a preference for work in progress. If you would like to present, please send your title, author list and abstract (250 words maximum) to Ed Hutchinson ( by 20 October.

Participants who are not offered an oral presentation will have the chance to present their work in a poster session.
