BBSRC has committed up to £7M to fund an integrated programme of research to tackle bovine tuberculosis (bTB).  The programme will have two parallel strands. The first strand involves a BBSRC call for research proposals (with co-funding from Defra). The second part, will be a call run by NC3Rs to fund the development of novel models for TB research.  As part of this programme BBSRC is keen to encourage proposals that promote a One Health approach by utilising advances in human TB research to provide insights into bTB and vice versa. The initiative will be launched at a Town Meeting on 8 July.

The aim of this programme is to support high-quality fundamental research that focuses on basic underpinning bioscience inthree themes:

  1. Step change in bTB vaccinology: focusing on understanding of the immune mechanisms whereby immunisation with vaccine induces immune protection in cattle
  2. Understanding bTB strain diversity: moving from “genotype to phenotype”
  3. Host-pathogen interactions

It is strongly recommended that researchers wishing to take part in the initiative attend the Town Meeting, where further details about the call will be provided and any questions can be answered.

Please note that anyone wishing to attend the meeting will need to register in advance.  If you wish to attend please complete the attached registration form and return it to Sarah Plowman (Sarah.Plowman@bbsrc.ac.uk) as soon as possible - closing date 30 June 2014.
