Henry McSorley in the Institute for Immunology and Infection Research wins prestigious Asthma UK fellowship

We are delighted to announce that Dr Henry McSorley, from Professor Rick Maizels' lab in the Institute for Immunology and Infection Research, has been successful in obtaining a Senior Postdoctoral Development Award from Asthma UK

The award is one of only 2 such awards made this year, and will allow Henry to carry out a three year project investigating how parasite products modulate the early events in the allergic response.

Prof Maizels says:

In models of animal airway allergy, we have found that helminth infections down-regulate inflammation, and indeed protection from allergy can be conferred by introducing secreted helminth proteins rather than live infection. This result is being pursued with a view to developing new therapies for allergy and asthma, and Henry's project will greatly advance this work.
