MSc in Next Generation Drug Discovery
(3 years part-time online distance learning leading to MSc, 2 years part-time study leading to Postgraduate Diploma, or 1 year part-time study leading to Postgraduate Certificate)
The current low rate of discovery of new medicines is a “grand global challenge". This innovative Masters programme will provide you with the stimulus, guidance and knowledge to develop a career around new approaches to drug discovery. You will be introduced to ideas from Systems Biology to help you to identify the best molecular targets against which to develop effective medicines. This approach will provide new tools for modelling drug action and analysing the network of interactions made by protein drug targets. Such analyses will play an increasingly important role in all stages of the drug discovery process. You will also be introduced to strategies for screening large chemical databases by computer methods in order to bring all available information to bear on the selection of the best potential drugs for any chosen target. In addition, you will gain an appreciation of the commercial aspects of drug discovery through the experiences of working entrepreneurs in the field who contribute to the course.
