MSc in Biomedical Sciences
This one-year, full time programme provides an excellent grounding for PhD study in the biomedical sciences. Entry requirements A UK 2:1 undergraduate degree, or its international equivalent, in the biological, chemical or physical sciences is normally required.
The Programme aims to prepare students for a 3-year PhD in biomedical research. You will learn valuable research skills, biomedical laboratory techniques and other transferable skills that will give you an advantage for the rest of your career.
The Programme includes core skills, seminars, taught modules and laboratory projects in our world-recognised research laboratories. Students will carry out two 20 week long research projects selected from the themes available; a research proposal is prepared for the second project in the form of a grant application. Students will also participate in transferable skills courses (effective presentations, writing up science, project planning and ethics in scientific research).
Project 1 (September to February)

Project 2 (April to August)
- Biomedical Imaging Genetics & Genes Genomic Technologies Molecular & Cellular Mechanism of Inflammation Reproductive Science 2
- Students may also be able to undertake projects in Neuroscience or Infectious Diseases with the permission of the programme director. They would also be required to attend the taught element of another theme as appropriate.
This programme is an excellent stepping-stone to a PhD or a career in biomedical research or industry.
