Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene Research in Progress – the future of tropical disease

A one-day meeting for young researchers and students to present unpublished ‘research in progress’ through short oral presentations and/or posters.

The meeting is themed around factors that will affect the future epidemiology of infectious diseases of the tropics. These factors would include, but not be limited to, demography, transport, trade, migration, climate and environmental change. A Foresight review identified eight categories of infectious diseases as particularly important for the future and presentations (oral and posters) will be selected to reflect this.

  • novel pathogens
  • pathogens acquiring resistance
  • zoonoses
  • HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria
  •  epidemic plant diseases
  •  acute respiratory infections
  •  sexually transmitted infections
  • transboundary animal diseases
