LabNote project launch event: Illuminating Biology and Robotics through Contemporary Classical Music

  • When:  Tuesday 14 May 2013
  • Time:  6 - 8 pm
  • Location:  22-26 Royal Society of Edinburgh, George Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2PQ

During this LabNote project, SynthSys, based in the Waddington Building, Kings Buildings, collaborated with a composer from the University of Glasgow and a freelance filmmaker to create an artistic piece inspired by the liquid handling robot housed in the KPF and used by many researchers across the University and beyond.

This public event will launch the resulting piece of music (Streamlines) by composer Dr Jane Stanley, Lecturer, University of Glasgow & RSE Young Academy of Scotland Member and accompanying film by freelance film-maker Martin Clark.  The project team will describe the creative process of bridging the arts and the sciences.  Audience members will have the chance to discuss the music and film in a Q&A session, and over drinks, when further music by Dr Stanley can be heard.  Chaired by Professor Alan Miller, FRSE, Deputy Principal (Research and Knowledge Transfer), Heriot-Watt University.

The event will finish with some drinks and nibbles.
