Global Health Academy Conference Day Two:  “Getting Research into Policy and Practice”

The first day in this two-day event focussed on establishing evidence, measuring impact and monitoring progress - how this is gathered from diverse fields and how this can be translated into change.

This second day to be held on 13 May 2013 will build on one of the priority themes of the Academy, “getting research into policy and practice”. Alongside health, experts from the business community will be invited to talk about the interchange between policies, products and priorities with demonstrations of ways in which simple research findings have made global public health differences to society.

We look forward to an interesting discussion with all those involved in the global health debate and are delighted to confirm that guest speakers will include:-

  • TB research: Shaping policy and practice in Nepal and South Africa
    • Dr Ian Harper and colleagues (Senior Lecturer, Head of Anthropology, University of Edinburgh)
  • Global policy development in relation to tobacco control
    • International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease
  • Regionalising international medical educational resources
    • Professor Neil Turner (Professor of Nephrology, University of Edinburgh)
  • Sustainable business development and the MDG
    • Dr Kenneth Amaeshi (Reader in Strategy & International Business, University of Edinburgh)
