We are pleased to confirm the 2013 BSP Spring meeting at Bristol University between the 8th and 11th April. The meeting is being organised by Mark Viney and Catherine Lawerence.

There will be some 35 sessions in 4 parallel streams covering all aspects of parasitology: endo-parasites to ecto-parasites and vectors; helminths to protozoa, molecular biology and genomics to ecology and neurobiology. This year we will be joined by the British Association of Veterinary parasitology. The Plenary session will be a debate between Andrew Read (Penn State), Alan Fenwick (Imperial) and the bioethicist James Wilson (UCL), on the balancing short-term benefits of anti-parasite treatment with the longer term evolutionary consequences.

Sessions include

  • Ecological interactions during infections – Jess Metcalfe
  • Life histories of hosts and parasites – Ken Wilson
  • Parasite and host behaviours – Frederick Thomas
  • Applying ecology and evolution – Angus Buckling
  • Parasite populations and communities – Andrew Read
  • Bridging scales in disease ecology – Katrina Lythgoe
  • Immune responses in an ecological context – Judi Allen
  • Molecular ecology of disease – John Jaenike
