5th European Conference on African Studies: African dynamics in a multipolar world

The fifth European Conference on African Studies (ECAS 5) will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, on June 27 to 29, 2013. It will be organized by the Centro de Estudos Africanos - Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (Center of African Studies of the University Institute of Lisbon) on behalf of AEGIS, the Africa-Europe Group for Interdisciplinary Studies. Its general theme will be ‘African Dynamics in a Multipolar World’.

James Smith (Centre for African Studies, University of Edinburgh, james.smith@ed.ac.uk) is hosting a panel entitled 'Neglected Tropical diseases and African Development'.  Closing date for submission of papers for this panel is Wednesday 16 January 2013.

  • The panel addresses the growing interest in dealing with previously 'neglected' tropical diseases and the implications this has for the governance of development interventions, strengthening of health systems, and prioritisation of science for development in Africa.
